How you propose can be just as important as your engagement ring. And getting the perfect pictures is a must. Below are the top 7 spots we believe will get you the best engagement photos.

Glasshouse, Morningside

Glasshouse
The Glasshouse in Morningside offers engagement packages during the weekdays

Need to propose during a weeknight? The Glasshouse in Morningside is the perfect place to get engaged. Rain or shine, this venue will be stunning.

The Glasshouse has a transparent roof which means you will also get lots of natural light and there are lots of amazing backdrops from which you can get photos in front of.

The Glasshouse also has a large wooden door, lots of natural flora and incredible lighting which is perfect for photography.

Bookings are essential. Make sure to ask for the photoshoot location.

Omanawanui Track, Waitakere Ranges

Omanawanui Track Views
Views of the ocean from the Omanawanui track during sunset offer the best photo opportunities

If you are both into hiking and fitness, this may just be the perfect track to propose on. With stunning panoramic views, this will definitely get comments like “wow!” on Instagram.

It is a 1 hour drive from Auckland CBD and then a 40 minute hike to the first peak. This track is quite busy during the summer weekends so the best time to go is mid-late afternoon on a weekday against a sunset backdrop. The track is typically empty so you will have a lot of private time to get the best photos.

The best time to propose is about an hour before sunset on a blue-sky day. Make sure your photographer is up for the hike too!

Westbrook Winery, Kumeu

Love to talk (and sip) more than walk? Westbrook Winery in Kumeu might just be the perfect place to propose and get idyllic engagement photos.

Nestled deep in Kumeu wine country, it boasts a pond, amazing grazing areas and even an amazingly priced platter menu. Take a stroll through the vines and get stunning shots from across the estate.

The best thing of all, they do outstanding wine.

Omaha Beach, Omaha

Omaha beach
View of Omaha Beach on a sunny day offers a great proposal opportunity

If your proposal is a whole day affair, you can’t go past Matakana and Omaha. It’s perfect if you have planned a weekend away. Stay in some of the beautiful Matakana cottages around town, stroll your way to the Saturday market surrounded by boutique shops. Sip wine along your way around the region and lunch at the famous Brick Bay Winery. Lastly, your proposal could be along one of many outstanding beaches — Omaha, Tawharenui, Waipu Cove or Mangawhai.

We recommend you early spring or a early-mid autumn proposal here. It can be hard to get privacy at the beaches for photos, especially during the holiday seasons.

Bastion Point, Orakei

Bastion Point
Bastion Point is usually a quiet spot to get on one knee

New Zealand’s own Taj Mahal, Bastion Point offers beautiful gardens, a beautiful backdrop of the city and water, and beautiful spots to take photos — all without the crowds or entry fee.

Bastion Point is also a favourite spot for wedding photographers especially during sunset. It is also relatively private with lots of space to take photos.

Its an easy stroll down to Mission Bay for a glass of bubbles and a bite to top it all off.

Mudbrick Winery, Waiheke Island

Mudbrick winery
While it is always a great time to propose at mudbrick, we recommend early sunset

If you want to go for a glamorous proposal, you can’t go past Mudbrick Winery on Waiheke Island. The views from their lawns are outstanding with the backdrop of the city. Also their food and wine pairings are incredible.

My recommendation is to go on a weekday so you get a bit more quiet. The weekends, even on a cloudy day tends to be very busy.

Private yacht, Waitamata Harbour

Yacht over Auckland Harbour
Explore Group offers romantic sunset sailing expeditions, perfect for a proposal

If you want a boujie proposal, then hiring a private yacht just might be it. Sail into the sunset to get some amazing photos to be the envy of all your friends.

Some also include complimentary drinks on arrival, a 3-course meal and an on-boat bar to celebrate.
